Dear Self, January 30, 2012
So far this year has been a big one for you! It’s your senior year and soon you will be starting all over in a new place! College. Scary, right? So far you can say your senior year has sucked. You lost important people in your life and it just is not the same as before, but remember this: it is all a part of the experience God has planned for your life. This is what you are learning to deal with, and God has been revealed so much because of it. Romans 8:28, “And we know in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” So shut up about it being horrible and just trust in God with it all!
Your focus on God has been difficult. I have seen that and yet you keep your distance. I don’t understand why you do this to yourself, but remember what it says in Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.” Stop trying to take control. He knows more than you. He holds your present and future in his hands and so you just need to let go and follow him. It can be that easy! It does not help that you have been slacking in His Word, but at least you realized that and are trying to read daily again without it being a chore. I am happy to see that. Remember, God is first and always will be. Do not let anyone or anything else come before Him.
Since the past situations you had to deal with at the beginning of the school year, I am happy to see how you are currently dealing with it. It went from a hard thing and now God has made it into something you can help others with. That is how we should be dealing with tough times, see the positive and use it to our advantage. You started reconnected with friends and getting stronger in speaking out loud. I know that God has been using you and your past as something to reach out to others with. Know it is a good thing. It does not matter who you are and how you speak to make a difference. You worry that people are better at giving advice then you. You worry that you will not be a good counselor and that you will fail. Give up the worries and live for what you are doing now! Do you not see it?! Every day you are a light being used for God’s kingdom. You are always being watched whether you like it or not and this right here is a good thing.
Stay connected to your family. That has been another thing you are getting better at. You have been talking to them more. However, you worry that you are not talking to them enough about Christ, just remember God is always with you. He never lets you go, and he will not give up on using you. You never know how God is revealing himself to them through you. Just keep shining his light and be slow to anger and things will work out.
The last thing I want to tell you is: You are beautiful! You do not need to let someone else make you feel this way because you have the best person of all telling you so! Jesus. He says it directly in his word that “our inner self is unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. (1 Peter3:3) See! He tells you not to worry about your outer looks because that is not what matters to him. He knows you will struggle with yourself image, but he protects us from it. He is the one we should be trying to impress, yet he does not want us to in the ways we think we are impressing! So just remember that when you look in the mirror and you think you see a hideous person. You are not. You are beautiful because God created you and planned you. God does not make mistakes and he does not create ugly things. Sin is the only ugly thing and we do that to ourselves. Just remember he makes you clean every day. He is willing to wash you off and forgive you. So do not give up. You are making a difference, and people need help. People are going through the same trails as you so become a helper of God and use what he has taught you to help them through the same things.
P.S. Live for God always, and stay strong, you have been doing so this far.
Love,
Amanda
